1970 (the arguable birth-year of metal!) in Houston, Texas

E-Mail address:

Describe your way to Heavy Metal:

Been listening to metal since I first heard "paranoid" on the radio when I was a young child. My first cassettes were Jimi Hendrix, Cream, BLACK SABBATH! Really into Judas Priest as an adolescent. Then got into punk, thrash, grunge and then when I heard BOLT THROWER, back into Metal around 1990! Since then I have been an avowed metal-head.

How and when did you become a collector?

I've been collecting since about 1984. Most of the stuff I bought at that time was punk. I worked for VINAL EDGE records in Houston from 1991-1994 where I was the metal buyer and expert.

What kind of stuff do you collect?

Only vinyl and only 12"

Which styles do you collect?

Mostly traditional metal with an emphasis on USA, Italy, Sweden and the NWOBHM, though I do have some Thrash and Death Metal gems. NO BLACK METAL

How big is your collection?

At one time my collection was at 5000 records. I made a couple of big moves--one to Austin and then again to Brooklyn and it was mostly financed by selling off my collection. Currently my collection stands at about 1000 records.

Your favourite records (by heart or value):

I could never list merely ten top records by heart (there are so MANY!) so I will list the ten most valuable metal records I own:

Dezark s/t 12"
Slander "Careless Talk Costs Lives" LP
X-Caliber "Warriors of the Night" LP
Hammerwitch "Return to Salem" 12"
Palass "Queen of the World" LP
White Hott "Angel in Leather" 12"
Beserks s/t LP
Mistreater "Hell's Fire" LP
Loosely Tight "Fightin' Society" LP
Emmy Strut s/t 12"

Do you trade / buy / sell?

Yes, I buy records. Mostly off of the internet.

Any famous last words?

45 is the new 15 ;)
