Describe your way to Heavy Metal:

I’ve been listening to Heavy Metal since 1986. I started listening to this music through AC/DC and Kiss (two bands that still have a special place in my heart) but, when I discovered “Music From The Elder”, I understood that my real vocation was Epic Metal.

How and when did you become a collector?

I’ve been buying large quantities of records since 1989. I collect because I am always hungry for music and yearning to discover more and more obscure bands. Anyway I am not a fanatic, I’ve realized I’ll never own all the records I want and I am not inclined to buy overpriced rarities (which are often “so – so” albums or even craps)

What kind of stuff do you collect?

I am a vinyl lover but I buy a lot of Cds too and, after all, I prefer to pay a normal price for a Cd reissue than spending mega-bucks for an original vinyl edition

Which styles do you collect?

I collect only old style Epic Metal and Doom Metal (no Symphonic/Happy Metal or Stoner/Gothic Metal) from all over the world; my faves are early Judas Priest (“Sad Wings of Destiny” is my all times favourite album), Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Manowar, Manilla Road, Mercyful Fate / King Diamond, Nemesis / Candlemass, Cirith Ungol, early Angel Witch, Warlord, Heavy Load, Trouble, Pentagram, early Fates Warning, early Paul Chain, Witchfinder General, Cloven Hoof, Sarcofagus, Gotham City, Adramelch, Omega, Jag Panzer, Dark Quarterer, Slauter Xstroyes, Deep Switch, Dark Age, Desolation Angels etc etc etc plus some new bands such as While Heaven Wept, Total Eclipse, DoomSword, Twisted Tower Dire, Moahni Moahna, Dawn Of Winter or the amazing Fiaba (check out their website www.fiabaweb.com). I like (and buy) also some Classic Metal, N.W.O.B.H.M. and seventies Dark Sound/Progressive Rock but, after all, I am very closed minded so I don’t like other kinds of Metal such as Prog.Metal, Thrash, Death, Black … (I’ve never bought neither a Metallica album). As I think I haven’t enough money to buy every old/new release of Epic and Doom Metal, why do I have to spend on something else?

How big is your collection?

I have approximately 1600 records (Lp, 7”, 12”, 10”, Cd) + a lot of magazines/fanzines, books, videos and few demos

Where do you buy?

I buy almost every new release (or re-release) through the Underground Symphony mailorder while, as for old stuff, I apply to some other Italian merchants. I know that I miss many opportunities but I am too lazy and too little enterprising to buy through international mailorders or through internet
